World Orienteering Championships - WOC2024

Delighted to be appointed Event Director for the Sprint World Orienteering Championships in Edinburgh in July 2024.

With WOC2024 racing taking place in various arenas across the city, Edinburgh will provide an amazing backdrop as the action from this innovative and exciting format of the sport is broadcast and streamed live around the world.

Underbelly at the Edinburgh Festival

Edinburgh comes alive every August as the International Festival and Fringe descends on the city.

It was great to meet new people play a very small part in “one of the greatest celebrations of arts and culture on the planet” as site manager at Underbelly Bristo Square for a few nights.

UCI Cycling World Championships

Brilliant to be involved in the inaugural UCI Cycling World Championships.

Working as Sport Technical Operations Manager within the Sport FA for the final few months of planning and as part of a fantastic team on venue at Glasgow BMX Centre. Delivering 11 days of Challenge and Championship BMX Racing to almost 3,000 riders, tens of thousands of fans and a global TV audience.

KPMG’s Big Walk

Having been asked to work for Massive to develop a more challenging route for the Scottish leg of the KPMG Big Walk, it was nice of the weather to be so good as we welcomed hundreds of KPMG colleagues into the Ochil Hills above Stirling.

Walkers were treated to amazing views and blue skies as they tackled a testing 10k or 20k route and raised thousands of pounds for Marie Curie.

Etihad Stadium

While I’ve been all over the place delivering events, the Crexcell team on the ground at The Etihad Stadium have continued to deliver a first class service in support of the venues security policies.

We safely stored almost 10,000 large bags for fans and football matches and concerts in the stadium during the 2022/23 season.

Brighton Marathon

Starting the Event Season at the seaside with course sector manager duties on the Brighton Marathon.

Working for Massive on behalf of London Marathon Events in their first year managing this famous festival of running, I’m really looking forward to seeing the event continue to develop.

UCI Track Champions League - London

Working for British Cycling and with Warner Brothers Discovery Sport, their contractors and Lee Valley Velodrome to plan (including using my CAD skills!) and deliver the event operations which support the racing, sports presentation and broadcast on rounds 4 and 5 of the exciting and innovative UCI Track Champions League.

Mai Dubai City Half Marathon

Really enjoyed being back in Dubai to work with familiar faces as Race Director for the fourth Mai Dubai City Half Marathon.

With record entry levels, runners were treated to a flat route through the heart of Dubai International Financial Centre.

Youth Beatz Festival

A change from sport events to festival site management.

Great to be part of a hugely talented and committed team of staff who work so hard to deliver, Youth Beatz, a free festival for young people in Dumfries and Galloway. With more than 20,000 people attending on day one to see acts including Pixie Lott and Ella Eyre it was a real shame that bad weather forced the cancellation of the second day.

UCI BMX Racing World Cup - Glasgow

Back in Glasgow with the British Cycling team, but this time leading the planning and delivery of the event operations around the UCI BMX Racing World Cup.

It was great to hear so much positive feedback from riders, fans and the UCI with just over a year until the inaugural multi-discipline UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow and Scotland in August 2023.

Great Manchester Run

After months of planning and preparation in my role as Course Manager for the Great Run Company, it was great to see Eilish McColgan fly round the street of Manchester live on BBC TV.

Eilish broke the British and European 10km record as she lead home a world class elite field and tens of thousands of club charity and fun runners.

UCI Track Nations Cup - Glasgow

A great 10 days in Glasgow as part of the British Cycling team delivering the UCI Track Nations Cup, having worked to plan the event over the previous months.

Italians on gold bikes, rainbow jerseys, good people, long days, lots of laughs and even more crashes.

London Landmarks Half Marathon

A quick trip to London to work as part of the route management team on the fantastic London Landmarks Half Marathon.

My section of the route didn’t disappoint, with runners passing the Bank of England building and heading through The City as they raised huge sums for Tommy’s and other fantastic charities.

GMR 2021.jpg

Great Manchester Run

Back in Manchester, but this time for the Great Manchester Run.

Working for Great Run as Course Director, race day was the culmination of a busy and fairly short planning period.

Despite the challenges we delivered half-marathon and 10k routes for thousands of runners as well as elite female, male and wheelchair fields which featured as part of a two-hour programme on BBC1 across the UK.

KPMG’s BIG Walk for the NSPCC - Falkirk

It was pleasure to be out in the woodlands and countryside around Callendar Park working for Massive as Course Sector Manager for the KPMG Big Walk in Falkirk.

Great North Run

It was great to be back in the Toon working with old colleagues and friends for the fortieth staging of the world’s biggest half-marathon!

As Course Manager for the city centre section of this once-only route it was brilliant to see runners head through the heart of Newcastle in the final few miles before they reached the finish at the Town Moor.

Break The Cycle montage.JPG

Break the Cycle with Sir Chris Hoy

After almost a year since the last event, it was a real pleasure to be part of the Pennine Events team as Venues Manager as we planned and delivered the inaugural Break the Cycle with Chris Hoy.

Over 500 cyclists rode the 60 miles from Glasgow to Edinburgh; raising more than £700,000 for Social Bite and helping to build two new homeless villages in Glasgow and London.

Manchester City

Delighted and honoured that the strategic partnership between Crexcell and MÒR Events has been contracted by Manchester City to deliver the baggage management operation in support of the club’s new ‘small bags only’ policy for all season 2021/22 fixtures at the Etihad Stadium.

Bringing the experience and expertise gained at BT Murrayfield and Hampden Park we provide capacity for the storage of over 2,500 bags across four locations around the stadium.

Euro 2020 Hampden Park

One year later than planned and with reduced crowd sizes due to Covid, but it was fantastic to see fans back in stadiums for Euro 2020.

In support of UEFA’s championship-wide ‘No Bags’ policy, MÒR Events and Crexcell delivered bag storage facilities for fans attending the group matches and Round of 16 fixture at Hampden Park, Glasgow.

Nations Cup.PNG

UCI Nations Cup

Really enjoyed working with British Cycling as Event Operations Manager during the planning for UCI Track Nations Cup cycling event in Newport.

Sadly the event will now not be staged due to Covid-19, but it was an enjoyable few months planning infrastructure, event operations and Covid protocols and processes in line with requirements of International Federation, TV production, local stakeholders and sport competition colleagues.

NEBOSH -

NCG in Occupational H&S

After some Covid-related interruptions to the exam schedule I was delighted to gain the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety with Credit.

It was interesting to share learnings and experiences with students from a variety of other industries, but I’m looking forward to building on this qualification and continuing to put this knowledge to use in an event environment.

2020 Mai Dubai City Half Marathon

After a difficult 6 months for events it was great to be back in Dubai leading the planning and delivery of the 2020 Mai Dubai City Half Marathon.

Tight Covid measures added additional complexity to the event, but the feedback from runners, sponsors and partners has been really positive. Check out the highlights on the video below.

Oman by UTMB

Contracted by Oman Sail as Operations Specialist for the Ultra Trail race across the Al Hajar Mountain range in Oman. Working with international experts and local colleagues to safely deliver an event of epic scale.

Oman by UTMB featured runners from 69 different countries within the field of around 2,000 participants who took on 170km, 130km, 50km or junior/beginner routes in such amazing surroundings. MÒR Events oversaw the logistics to transport over 32 tonnes of food, infrastructure and medical supplies to the check-points across the race route.

MÒR Events was contracted by Promoseven Sports Marketing to work as Race Director for the inaugural Mai Dubai City Half Marathon. With only three-weeks lead-in time from arriving in Dubai to the race date; MÒR Events reviewed and amended existing proposals before undertaking detailed planning to ensure that a safe, enjoyable and sustainable event was staged.

While delivering the first event of this kind around Dubai International Financial Centre was not without challenges, the feedback from the 2,000 participants - as well as the high-profile brands, venues and government agencies that supported the race - has been extremely positive.

Murrayfield Stadium - Oversized Baggage Facility

Supporting Murrayfield Stadium’s small bags policy; MÒR Events are working in partnership with Crexcell to deliver the oversized baggage facilities on match-days through July, August and September.

WTOS montage.JPG

Women’s Tour of Scotland

The inaugural Women’s Tour of Scotland was staged in early August, 2019.

MÒR Events worked with partners, stakeholders, contractors and a team of freelance staff to successfully deliver stage start and finishes in Dundee, Dunfermline, Glasgow, Perth and Edinburgh despite terrible weather on stages one and three.

Sadly, financial mismanagement from Zeus Events left many parties unpaid and means the event will not be staged in 2020.

Spice.JPG

The Spice Girls at Murrayfield Stadium

They say that variety is the spice of life… so this event seemed an appropriate change from mass-participation and elite sport. Good to be part of the Bridge TG team and work with some familiar faces and new contacts across a number of areas of the concert at Murrayfield.

It was also very interesting to see how such a huge event is delivered and impressive how quickly the venue is stripped-out once the music stops and the 55,000 fans have left.

etape+poster.jpg

Etape Caledonia

Another weekend in the fantastic Scottish countryside. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t quite as spectacular as the scenery - hence the souvenir painting rather than a photograph!

Working for Limelight Sports as part of the event operations team; MÒR Events managed the successful delivery of feed station #3 at the 2019 Etape Caledonia. Servicing over 3,000 cyclists who tackled either the 40 mile or 85 mile route through Highland Perthshire.

Etape Caledonia is one of the UK’s original closed-roads sportives. The event has attracted more than 35,000 people since it debuted in 2007 and in 2019 was delivered by Limelight Sports for the first time.

The Scotsman Women in Sport Conference

With Scotland hosting golf’s Solheim Cup, the Scottish Women’s Football team featuring in the World Cup Finals in France and the inaugural Women’s Tour of Scotland seeing the world’s best cyclists take to the country’s roads; 2019 is a huge year for women’s sport in Scotland.

Mor-Events-Stirling-Cross-Country-National-Championships.jpg

Simplyhealth Great Stirling XCountry

A “great” start to 2019! Working with the Great Run team to deliver the course for the inaugural Great Stirling XCountry.

The event, which has been held in Edinburgh for the last decade, welcomed world-class athletes to Stirling for the first time in 2019 as teams from Europe, USA and Great Britain competed in front of fantastic crowds beneath Stirling Castle in races that were broadcast live on BBC Sport.

Direct Control.jpg

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay

Working with specialist supplier, Direct Control UK, MÒR Events helped to install the fibre-optic network which linked performance stages, outside broadcast facilities and the Event Control room for the World’s biggest street party.
